Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I hear an intermittent noise from the front of my car. Do I need to worry about it?
A. Every intermittent, unusual noise should be investigated. Call us and describe what your car is doing, we’ll use our experience to help decide if your car needs to be looked at.  Quick action can often save a lot of dollars.

Q. I have a leak under my car. How can I tell what is leaking?
A.  The color of the liquid helps identify the source. Engine coolant is orange or green; Engine oil is brown to black; Transmission oil is red or pink; Power steering fluid is light brown; Differential grease is dark brown.  Determining the source of the leak is critical to avoiding expensive trouble. Call us and describe what you see.

Q. When should I rotate my tires?
A. Rotating your tires should be done at every other oil change; in some case as often as every oil change, to ensure proper wear and extend the life of your tires while keeping you safe. We inspect tire tread depth every time your car is in for service to determine when this is required.

Q. My engine light comes on, what should I do?
A. When you first start your car, all the instrument cluster lights will come on as a function test. These lights will go off when the test is complete. If the check engine light illuminates or stays lit, this is a warning notice from the on-board diagnostic system that something is not operating within design parameters. It could be a simple problem to fix, left alone it may become major, don't ignore this light!

Q. What instrument cluster lights should I worry about and which are just precautions?
A. Every instrument light is responsible for notifying the owner of issues that need to be addressed. If any of the following lights are illuminated you should  have the cause investigated; Check Engine light, Oil light, ABS light, Traction light, Tire Pressure light. A flashing Check engine light means stop the engine immediately to prevent catastrophic damage from occurring.

Q. What is the difference between service and repair?
A. Maintenance services are done to prevent future problems from occurring and to extend the service life of your vehicle. Repairs are performed to correct damage that has occurred due to a lack of service or a failure of a part to perform its designed function.

Q. Why are there different types of oils?
A. Conventional oils are petroleum based lubricants that have been available in various forms for decades. Synthetic oils are non-petroleum lubricants that were created more recently to meet the needs of newer engines. Your vehicle requires a particular type of oil and using anything less will definitely shorten its service life

Q. As the seasons and outside temperatures change, do I need to have my car checked?
A. Each new season presents your vehicle with a particular set of challenges.  In the summer you need to avoid overheating your engine and make sure your air conditioning system is working properly, to protect you from overheating. In the winter you need to protect the engine coolant system from freezing and make sure your heating and ventilating system is working properly.  Newer vehicles have extended fluid service lives and maintenance service intervals, but contrary to popular advertising myth, there is no such thing as a maintenance free vehicle.
